170cm
In my journey to discovering and finding more artists who do cross-genre music, I found Tamilian artist and rapper, Paal Dabba on the track titled, 170cm.
The acapella quickly-spoken poetry immedaitely caught my attention, and my enthusiasm in this track only grew with the rhythmic addition in the following verses. While sparsely instrumented, the few elements present within the track were so strong independently, that it had me hooked, and replaying for more. This song quickly led into more findings of South Asian hip hop, acting as the catalyst for my playlist to start off the year.
Watching this in a live gig would prove to be quite exhilerating, seeing someone rap so quickly live. I think the audience appeal, purely for language reasons would initially probably be limited to those who speak the language, and are able to understand and appreciate the lyricism at play, Although ambitious, I do hope that this amounts to a wider audience outreach.
